Imagination 2021: Writing Children’s Literature – Writing Workshop with Sara O’Leary

Sara O’Leary is the author of numerous picture books including Maud and Grand-Maud, This is Sadie, and A Family is a Family is a Family. She teaches writing for children at Concordia University in Montreal.

In this workshop we will discuss the rudiments of writing picture books. We will look at what a finished manuscript should look like, and discuss topics such as illustration notes, page turns, and structure. We will do several in-class exercises focused on generating ideas and developing opening lines. The class will end with an open question-and-answer session.
