Imagination – Bilingual Literature

La belle-mère / The Stepmother, written in French and English simultaneously, is a recent co-creation of poets and performers Rachel McCrum and Amélie Prévost. The show had its premiere in Montreal in September 2024 and is now available in a bilingual edition from L’Hexagone.

This bilingual event, presented in French with a bilingual Q&A, will be held at Maison de la littérature at 40 rue Saint-Stanislas.

Rachel McCrum is originally from Northern Ireland and has lived in Montréal, Québec, since 2017. From 2010 to 2016, she was based in Edinburgh, Scotland, where she was the first BBC Scotland Poet-in-Residence and recipient of a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship. Her first solo show, Do Not Alight Here Again, was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has toured and taught poetry and performance in Ireland, Scotland, England, Greece, South Africa, Haiti, and Canada.

Amélie Prévost has been writing and performing at spoken word shows for about 15 years. Having studied Theatre, she has learned to love team work and has the seven-years-long tour of her duo performance with Queen Ka, Fol ouvrage – Torcher des paillettes, to prove it. She won the Paris poetry slam World Cup in 2016. She has published four books of poetry, notably Osti d’pain blanc (L’Hexagone, 2023), finalist for the CoPo des lycéen.nes award in 2024. Her latest creation, La belle-mère / The Stepmother, written in French and English simultaneously in collaboration with co-author Rachel McCrum, is her first step in writing and performing in English.
