Last Thursday, we have launched a new exhibit by Interférences, Arts et Technologies, under the artistic direction of Louis-Robert Bouchard. The “In the Press” exhibit displays the work of participants in this workshop series and explores journalistic storytelling.
Our morning routine was once anchored by the daily delivery of the newspaper, but in the past few years we have been witnessing the proliferation of ways to get information in real time. Besides writing the newspaper articles for which they are known, today’s journalists also write television newscasts and choose topics for radio shows, all while being publicly followed on social networks.
Their field of action is expanding but their main role, that of telling us stories, remains the same.
The exhibition In the Press presents the approach of five journalists and their journey to the profession of “storyteller”. Headlines, video reports, tweets, photographs and podcasts created by the participants of our workshop series are presented as different pages of these stories. Sometimes translucent, sometimes opaque, each page acts as a filter between the visitor and the outside world, which surrounds journalists and brings them these stories.
The materiality of the installation takes shape in contact with the light and comes alive with the passing hours, making shadows dance and revealing a variety of complementary content on the evolution of journalism.
